What Tree Trimming Actually Is
Tree trimming removes limbs. Usually dead or any that’s causing problems, such as growing into a power line or getting leggy and overgrown.
This is different from pruning, which is more selective and focused on health and structure. Trimming is more aggressive since you’re removing larger branches.
Different Types of Trimming
- Crown cleaning We remove dead, diseased, and weak branches from the interior of the tree. This improves air movement, reduces disease pressure, and opens up the tree so light can reach interior branches. A cleaned-up tree looks healthier.
- Crown thinning We selectively remove branches to reduce density without changing the overall shape of the tree. This improves light penetration and air movement. Useful for trees that are too dense or suffering from fungal disease.
- Crown raising We remove lower branches to increase clearance over driveways, roofs, walkways, and sight lines. If a tree is hanging too low, crown raising fixes it.
- Limb removal Remove hazardous or problematic branches. A limb cracked by a storm. A branch growing toward power lines. A branch that's just in the way.
